Thank you for visiting Joe Viger Photography!
I grew up with in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with a view of the Presidential Range always on the south horizon. My interest in photography grew from exploring the backcountry and a sense that I wanted to share those experiences. As a result, my trusty film SLR has traveled hundreds of miles by backpack, snowshoe, skis and canoe. Today, I am a freelance photographer and my cameras are never far away. While still partial to landscapes, I do extensive work photographing sports and enjoy making portraits.
Images that convey the essence of people and place are always most intriguing to me and I try to bring that to all of my work. These images aren't always the ones featuring the superstar athlete or the name brand location and are often found just outside the spotlight. Famed National Geographic freelancer William Albert Allard put it well, "I think the best pictures are often on the edges of any situation, I don't find photographing the situation nearly as interesting as photographing the edges."
My work appears in a variety of publications including Trail Runner, Runner’s World, Competitor.com, Velo, Men’s Health, UltraRunner and numerous newspapers. I am the official photographer for the Mt Washington Road Race and Tin Mountain’s Mt Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb. I’m honored to support Tin Mountain with a portion of the proceeds from the latter. I am a juried member of the Mount Washington Valley Arts Association and exhibit fine art pieces wherever I can.
I continue to enjoy life in Northern New Hampshire, although now I live a little further South, in a town called Freedom... believe it or not. I have two fantastic sons who I relentless torment with cameras. They are starting to pick up cameras and torment me back.
