Thank you for visiting Joe Viger Photography!
I grew up with in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with a view of the Presidential Range always on the south horizon. My interest in photography grew from exploring the backcountry and a sense that I wanted to share those experiences. As a result, my trusty film SLR has traveled hundreds of miles by backpack, snowshoe, skis and canoe. Today, I travel nationally for my day job and my camera is never far away. While still partial to landscapes, I also enjoy making portraits and photographing sports.
Images that convey the essence of people and place are always most intriguing to me and I try to bring that to all of my work. These images aren't always the ones featuring the superstar athlete or the name brand location and are often found just outside the spotlight. Famed National Geographic freelancer William Albert Allard put it well, "I think the best pictures are often on the edges of any situation, I don't find photographing the situation nearly as interesting as photographing the edges."
My work appears regularly in a variety of publications. I am a juried member of the Mount Washington Valley Arts Association and exhibit fine art pieces wherever I can. I continue to enjoy life in Northern New Hampshire, although now I live a little further South, in a town called Freedom... believe it or not. I have two fantastic sons who I relentless torment with cameras. They are starting to pick up cameras and torment me back.
